James Wan and Leigh Wannell made heads turn when they announced audacious plans to tour a “heart-pounding live theatrical experience” based on Blumhouse’s blockbuster Insidious franchise. Fast forward to the opening night of Insidious: The Further You Fear in Lafayette, Arkansas. Jaws dropped. And apparently, not in a good way.
Disastrous reviews bombarded the internet after its first show, which may have very well been one of its last ones. Audience members complained about the high price point of the show compared to its seemingly low production value. Insidious: The Further You Fear promised an “exciting, new story” ahead of a planned sixth entry in the Insidious franchise coming soon.
Shortly after its Detroit stop, speculation was rampant about the production’s future shortly when ticketing was abruptly wiped from the show’s website. Finally, ABC’s Detroit station confirmed the show’s premature cancellation with a member of its cast. Here’s hoping that the cancellation gives time to rework the idea instead of scrapping the concept altogether.
