HORROR DOMINATES SPIRIT AWARD NOMINATIONS

I Saw The TV Glow
Source: A24

Today’s (12/4) announcement of the Spirit Award nominations revealed a refreshing array of Horror titles in the mix. Jane Schoenbrun’s magnificent I Saw The TV Glow led the wave, tying with Anora for the most nominations with a staggering 6. These included nods for performances from Justice Smith and Brigette Lundy-Paine, directing and screenplay nods for Schoenbrun, as well as one for Best Feature.

Director Coralie Fargeat’s The Substance nabbed a few nods as well, notably for Best Feature and Demi Moore’s uber-physical lead performance. Another physically taxing performance being recognized is Hunter Schafer’s in Cuckoo, for which the actress is nominated for Best Lead Performance.

Marvel’s spellbinding sapphic series Agatha All Along also received nominations for stars Kathryn Hahn, Patti LuPone, and Joe Locke.

Every awards season, The Spirit Awards recognize achievements in independent cinema. Many look to these awards as an early predictor of possible Academy Award nominations. Who would you like to see win this year? Which other Horror titles do you think deserved to be nominated?
